β β Hey, I hope all is good and you had a great Summer! So you may have noticed Apple have revealed the new iPhone 16 models :) π If you are not an Apple iPhone fan .. just click here to opt out of Apple focussed emails but stay subbed to the Viewsletter and product updates. The last couple of iPhone models didn't push the video features too much but this latest iteration has significant additions for folks like us who shoot video! In short, the iPhone 16: π₯ Has a fancy new camera control button on the side so you can access the camera, settings, and record video quickly more like a dedicated pocket camera. This is very handy especially when shooting broll/stills quickly on the fly and also to avoid digging into fiddly menus. π₯ All the iPhone 16's boast AI powered Audio features aka 'Audio Mix'. Audio Mix lets you adjust the way voices sound in your videos using three different voice options. Having good audio in your videos is critical so I hope these live up to the hype. In Frame: "Only captures the voices of the people on camera, even if people off-camera are talking during the recording." (Apple) This could be useful when recording interviews at events, in noisy indoor or outside locations. Studio: "Makes voices sound like youβre recording in a professional studio equipped with sound-dampening walls .. great for vloggers or podcasters because the recording will sound like the mic is close to the subjectβs mouth, even if itβs a few feet away." Could this possibly mean you can sometimes ditch your Lav mic? (especially handy for travelling light and shooting social videos on the go) We'll soon see, or should I say hear. Cinematic: "Captures all of the voices around you and consolidates them toward the front of the screen β just like sound is formatted for the movies." (Apple) Quite a niche idea, and I am not sure how this works when using external mics you would usually choose when shooting a movie. π₯ All iPhone models feature the ability to capture video in Spatial Audio for "an immersive and true-to-life sound." All versions also support wind noise reduction. (Handy!) π₯ Only the iPhone Pro models feature four new studio-quality mics. (I would always go for Pro version if you can stretch to it) π₯ The Pro and Pro Max now have the same camera system so if like me you prefer the smaller Pro version of the iPhone, you no longer need to opt for the Max size to get the best camera. π₯ iPhone 16 Pro (for you geeks) can capture 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision β you can adjust the playback speed after capture in the new Photos app, giving you greater editing flexibility. "To add a dreamy quality to your shot, try out the new half-speed option. Or for a cinematic effect, slow it right down to 24 fps playback." (Apple) π See behind the scenes of a Music Video shot on iPhone 16 Pro. (Plenty of slo-mo) π₯ The iPhone 16 Pro and has a new 5x optical zoom (previously only featured on the iPhone 15 max) A new 48mb Ultra Wide (Pros) and 48mb Main Camera (Pros) π₯ Also lots of new Apple Intelligence (AI) features are coming (iPhone 16 and 15 compatible) "Create a custom memory movie in Photos of the story you want to see. Enter a description, and Apple Intelligence finds the best photos and videos that match. It then crafts a storyline with unique chapters based on themes it identifies and arranges your photos into a movie with its own narrative arc." (Apple) Let's see how that works in real life. .. and as always they promise more battery life, always handy for video shooters. So, only so much I can write here. If you want to actually see how this looks and sounds according to Apple then here are 2 clips you should watch from the Keynote. These 2 Apple links will take you to the relevant timecodes. π All about the new camera controlβ π The geeky Video featuresβ Enjoy!
