So Apple have announced Apple Intelligence:

"The personal intelligence system that puts powerful generative models at the core of iPhone, iPad, and Mac"

Apple has teamed up with OpenAI to integrate its' generative AI tool into virtual assistant Siri. ChatGPT will be available free of charge in iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia – the next version of Mac OS – later this year.

The developer beta version of iOS 18 became available last Monday and a public beta will be available next month, Apple said.

The new AI features will be available later this year as a free software update for iPhone Xs and later models.

So what could the benefit be for Business Video Creators?

Let's break it down:

Photos

Apple says:

"Searching for photos and videos becomes even more convenient with Apple Intelligence. Natural language can be used to search for specific photos, such as β€œMaya skateboarding in a tie-dye shirt,” or β€œKatie with stickers on her face.” Search in videos also becomes more powerful with the ability to find specific moments in clips so users can go right to the relevant segment. Additionally, the new Clean Up tool can identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo β€” without accidentally altering the subject."

We say:

It could be handy if (big if) it can recognise speech, for example:

"Find me the section where John talks about Conversion rates" would be handy if you are editing down a conference video.

But also for B-roll too, for example:

"Find me a clip where the audience is laughing"

"Find me exterior shots of Sarah's gift shop"

In short, we hope it can speed up the process when you are trying to spool through footage on your Mac to find the right clips.

Memory Movies

Apple says:

"With Memories, users can create the story they want to see by simply typing a description. Using language and image understanding, Apple Intelligence will pick out the best photos and videos based on the description, craft a storyline with chapters based on themes identified from the photos, and arrange them into a movie with its own narrative arc. Users will even get song suggestions to match their memory from Apple Music. As with all Apple Intelligence features, user photos and videos are kept private on device and are not shared with Apple or anyone else."

We say:

Memories currently has a habit of picking out weird shots that aren't on topic.

For example your travel video ends up including other footage filmed during the day that isn't relevant to the trip.

Being able to type a prompt "Create a Memory Movie showcasing the workshop I held last Thursday in Bath" could be useful if the tool develops the 'brains' to pick out the good stuff, that's actually on topic.

If you can add extra prompts like 'use vertical videos only' or 'alternate people on stage with audience reaction' even better.

We'll soon find out.

Text

Apple says:

"With brand-new systemwide Writing Tools built into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, users can rewrite, proofread, and summarise text nearly everywhere they write, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps."

We say:

This could (maybe) be handy for script writing (much like Chat GPT is now) but integrated into your iPhone /Mac.

You could paste in an article and get key points to use as prompts in your slides when you record a video course. (Credited of course)

You could paste in a blog post you have written and change the tone or make it more concise.

Maybe they will introduce a video script style in future.

Sketch to image

Aside from custom 'genmojis' Apple has revealed there will be a new feature which can turn sketches into an image.

We say:

You could potentially use this to sketch images that you then export or screen capture for your keynote slides or a video edit.

Privacy?

Of course you may be worried about AI learning from your data and Privacy issues.

Well here is a video by Apple on that very topic to see what they are saying.

Speak soon,

Jules
